Info: I owned this car from some time in 1968 to October 1970 when I was a student at Liverpool University. I bought the car from a small garage near Weaverham in Cheshire for something like £90 (this may be wrong – it’s a long time ago). My son perched on the bonnet is now 51! When I sold the car it was not in good shape (as you can see) and I doubt whether it survived for long. The front end damage was caused by a totally unavoidable collision with a dog which ran out of a farmyard straight into my path. When I reported the dog’s demise to the farmer he seemed completely unmoved and unsurprised, said that the dog was always running into the road.
The car was black and white and I think that the interior may have been red. Many hours were spent trying to balance the twin carbs in a vain effort to extract a bit more acceleration from it. It’s sports car looks were certainly belied by its performance! The car was stolen twice in Liverpool, the thieves undoubtedly deceived by it’s sporty looks. It was recovered both times; once abandoned on the East Lancs road having run out of petrol (the locking petrol cap apparently having defeated them), and once from a side street in Liverpool where it stood for three weeks despite having been reported by neighbours to the police the day after it went missing.
All in all though, I have very fond memories of the car. |
