Info: I owned an all white Triumph Herald “S” with red seats in 1970; it was a 948cc. Can’t remember much about it other than the registration number – 2856 LJ. I changed the clutch plate from within the car (the transmission cover was of a sort of cardboard construction) and replaced a drive shaft when one sheared in two! It finally fell apart when I put my foot on the brake and the back axle caught up the front of the car due to the chassis outriggers having rusted away. Nevertheless I loved it and used tell everyone that the “S” meant sports edition (which it didn’t, of course).
I replaced it with a Herald 1200 (685 LYD) and fitted a pair of twin SU carburetors, loads of Smith instruments mounted on a polished aluminum bespoke console (I was an aircraft apprentice) and a special (SAH) rear spring which made the rear wheels splay out.
