Info: My first car was a 1961 herald coupe,I bought it in 1967 and had it till its demise in 1971.
It was probably the last mass market car with a chassis and I think the first with all-round independent suspension, it had twin SU carburettors which made it pretty fast for its time.
It was very easy to work on since if you lifted the bonnet the whole body forward of the bulkhead swung up and you could sit on the front wheel whilst working on the engine.
The most amazing thing was the Herald's turning circle, it could out turn a London taxi and I could do U-turns in the most narrow streets, in fact on one occasion I managed to wrench the hub out of the chassis which was the last thing I ever did with it.
If I remember rightly the reg. no. was WEV 888(or it might have been 888 WEV).
I have many happy memories of that car,it was a very original design in so many ways.
